We provided students the chance to help CU Denver Live! create the first student-made art project to be hung and displayed on campus by telling us they think “art” means!
Students tested their aim by throwing darts at paint-filled balloons on a gigantic canvas for a fun, creative release. We now have the piece hanging in the Office of Student Life (Tivoli 303) for everyone to see just how artistic this campus is!
CU Denver Live! brought you “Lynxapalooza” (the first annual CU Denver music festival) featuring nationally acclaimed acts Blind Pilot, Dr. Dog, and The Antlers. Sponsored by 97.3 KBCO, Student Government Association, and MISA (the Music Industry Student Association), this all day festival featured carnival attractions, a wide array of food trucks, and local music performances leading up to the headlining acts. Come early for fun, stay late for great music!
You might be a college student, but you certainly don’t have to eat like one! At this one-of-a-kind event, students ventured off-campus to the Cook St. Cooking school. One of the head culinary institutes in the state, they taught students how to cook a delicious array of pastas. After spending the night in the kitchen, they were able to eat their final creation – YUM!
CAM Alumni Jimmy Weber showcased a select few of his gory short films! We want to extend a huge thanks to the King Center for helping host this unique event. Weber hosted a Q&A session following the screenings.
Have you ever wanted to paint a masterpiece but weren’t sure where to start? At Masterpieces and Milkshakes, students learned step-by-step how to create a stunning painting while sipping on delicious milkshakes. Keep an eye out for this event in the future!
Students helped us celebrate a music, dance, and storytelling out of East Africa centered around raising awareness of HIV/AIDS, poverty, and Uganda’s orphan crisis. They also raised funds for Children of Uganda’s life saving programs in Africa.
Just because you didn’t receive your acceptance letter to Hogwarts doesn’t mean you can’t be a part of the Harry Potter experience. Students gathered in the Tivoli Turnhalle to watch Bovine Metropolis Theater show off their wizarding skills. Yes, it was magical.
Students were provided the opportunity to improve their improv skills and learn directly from the experts during the “Just For Fun – Intro To Improv Class” after the performance.
Students watched national slam poetry contestants explore social issues that today’s youth are facing. Presented in part by Button Poetry, this amazing slam-poetry performance featured Dylan Garity, Hieu Nguyen and Sam Cook.
The hit Broadway musical, Chicago, made its way to Denver! The musical showcases the imprisonment and trials of celebrity criminals, Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, as they compete for the attention of the best lawyer in town. CU Denver Live! brought a group students to Chicago at DCPA. Keep an eye out for discounted tickets to DCPA events in the future!
Students gathered at St. Cajetan’s for a screening of Hipster! The Musical, a feature-length musical-comedy about fixed gear bikes, horn-rimmed glasses, and embracing who you really are…through song! The film features 10 original songs and a cast/crew exclusively from Denver; this small production packs satire, dance, and heady hipster dialogue into a tight, endearing package. The film was followed by a Q&A by CU Denver student and director Adam Blair.
Stop pinning and start crafting! Students dropped by Tivoli Turnhalle in between classes to unwind from finals, and created crafts that they hadn’t had the time to do on their own. Crayon paintings, dream-catchers, and tie-dye are just a few of the crafts featured at this event.
Students got a chance to showcase their creative endeavors in our monthly showcases! February featured music, March featured photography, April featured painting/drawing, and May featured film. We are always blown away by what students at CU Denver create!
Spring Dates: February 26th, March 19th, April 16th
Need to relax in between classes? Why not do it while watching fellow students show off their talents during CU Denver’s Monthly Showcase. Students with a wide array of talents and skills will be performing monthly throughout the semester in the Tivoli’s Multicultural Lounge. Singers, comedians, musicians, videographers and more, there’s sure to be something to peak your interest – making that free time in between classes a little more interesting!
